A Blessing to SoMEone!
Proverbs 11:25: Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. (ESV)
I never expected to be so blessed. I just wanted to be a blessing.
I got a call from my husband a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. While he was studying and preparing for his sermon, his heart became heavy with grief at the thought of people with nowhere to go for the holiday. We knew the Spirit of God was calling him to plan a Thanksgiving dinner as an outreach in our community. So we did it.
Thanksgiving Day arrived and so did the people. There was a TON of food, but only a handful of people. But that was just how it was meant to be. Because if we had as many attend as we expected, or even hoped for, I never would have met Laton and Louise—the “L and L crew” as they called themselves. And I never would have been so blessed and “enriched” by talking with this sweet couple who loved the Lord.
After everyone was served, I sat down with my girls at a table next to Laton and Louise. We struck up a conversation.
“Laton, L-A-T-O-N, never heard a name like that, have you?” is how he introduced himself. I turned to his wife and asked her name. “Louise,” she said. “Sixty-five years together,” said Laton; “most people today count up all the years they have been married each time and then add all of ‘em together!”
I giggled. And I pondered…
Sixty-five years. What a history. More than that, it was a lifetime of memories, lessons and wisdom. And God put me there in that room in a conversation with them.
